Diary entries and photos are stored on your device. You can use the app without signing up, and backups or image sharing take place only when you choose them.

Translated from the Korean policy. View the Korean original.

1. Scope and operator

KYU LAB (operated by Hyeonkyu Lee) explains how information is handled in The Day iOS app and the choices available to you. This policy applies to The Day app, which lets you record activities, notes, photos, and moods.

The Day has no account registration or feature for syncing diary entries to a developer server. KYU LAB does not automatically receive diary entries or photos you add to the app.

2. Information handled on your device

The following information is handled on your device when you create entries or configure features.

  • Diary entries and drafts: Entry dates, activities and categories, notes, selected moods and photos, creation and modification times, and entry identifiers. These are used to save, edit, and search entries, and to display them in the calendar and collections.
  • Custom categories: Category names and creation times. These are used to categorize entries and select categories again.
  • App settings: Whether the first-use guide has been completed, the arrangement of categories on the home screen, and whether reminders are enabled and at what time. These are used to maintain the screen layout and diary reminders.

You do not need to enter every activity, note, photo, and mood. You can choose only the items you want to record. The app does not send this content to external AI services or transmit it for advertising or analytics purposes.

3. Retention and deletion

Entries and drafts stored on your device remain until you delete them. The app does not automatically delete diary entries after a set period.

  • Deleting an entry: In the menu on the entry detail screen, select Delete → Delete entry. The entry and its attached photos are removed from the app’s stored-entry list.
  • Deleting a draft: Delete the draft from the list of entries you can continue writing, or select Delete draft on the writing screen. A separate draft of an edit in progress may remain even after you delete an entry, so please check it as well.
  • Deleting app data: You can remove the app’s local data using iOS’s Delete App. This differs from Offload App, which keeps the data.

Deleting an entry in the app does not also delete copies already saved to Photos or Files, shared with other people, or included in device backups. You need to manage those separately in the location or service where they are stored. The operator cannot remotely access, restore, or delete records on your device.

4. Backup, sharing, and external services

The Day does not outsource diary storage to an external server or automatically provide diary data to third parties. It also does not use its own CloudKit synchronization. The following actions you may choose should be considered separately.

  • Full backup: Use Save full backup in Settings to save a JSON file containing entries, photos, drafts, and custom categories. App settings such as the home layout and reminders are not included in this file.
  • Restore: The app reads a backup file you select on your device to restore entries.
  • Collection images: You can create an image from selected entries, save it to Files or Photos, or send it to another app through the system share sheet. Please check the notes, photos, and moods included in the image before exporting it.

JSON backups are not separately encrypted. Anyone who receives the file can read the notes and photos it contains, so please check where you store it and whom you share it with.

If you select a cloud location such as iCloud Drive in Files, or use the operating system’s device or photo backups, data may be stored in the service you selected. That service is not a synchronization server operated by The Day, and its settings and privacy policy apply.

5. Photo and notification permissions

  • Selecting photos: The app attaches photos you choose in the system photo picker to diary entries. Imported photos are resized and saved again as JPEG files; metadata such as the original location is not collected as separate information.
  • Saving photos: The app may request permission to add photos when you save a collection image to Photos. You can still write diary entries and save files if you do not grant permission.
  • Notifications: The app requests notification permission when you turn on diary reminders. These are local notifications generated on your device at the time you set, and their messages do not include diary content. You can turn reminders off in the app’s settings or change the permission in iOS settings.

The current app has no external SDKs for advertising, behavioral analytics, or tracking, and does not request access to your location, contacts, or microphone.

6. Your choices and rights

You can view, edit, and delete your entries in the app and export them as a backup file. There is no account, so there is no separate account-deletion process. You can use the basic recording features without using reminders or photo-related features.

You can send privacy inquiries or requests for access, correction, deletion, or suspension of processing to support@kyu-lab.com. However, you must manage records on your device yourself, as the operator does not hold them. You do not need to send your entire diary or a backup file for us to respond to an inquiry.

7. Information protection and precautions

The app’s entries are stored in the app’s storage on your device. The app checks the file format, size, and other details when importing a backup, but does not provide a separate app lock or encryption for backup files.

Please use your device lock and the operating system’s security features, and take care not to keep backups or images containing personal content in public storage locations. After you choose to share something, the recipient or the service involved may also retain copies.

8. Children’s information

The Day does not accept account registration or ask you to enter your age or date of birth. Diary data, including content written by children, is handled on the device and is not automatically sent to the operator. A parent or guardian can make inquiries about a child’s personal information using the contact details above.

9. Inquiry information and contact details

When you contact us by email, we use the sender’s email address, inquiry content, and any materials you attach to respond and handle your request. Please do not send information unnecessary to resolve the inquiry, such as your resident registration number, passwords, or your entire diary.

Our operating standard is to delete inquiry emails and attachments within 30 days after completing our response. Ongoing inquiries are retained until they have been handled.

We use Apple’s iCloud Mail to receive, store, and respond to inquiry emails. Email processing may include processing outside Korea.

  • Service provider and contact details: The service provider for users in Korea is Apple Services Pte. Ltd. (Singapore). Privacy inquiries to the provider can be submitted through Apple Privacy Inquiries. iCloud Terms and Conditions
  • Information, timing, and method of processing: When emails are sent or received, the sender’s address, subject, message body, attachments, and sending and receiving information are transmitted over the communications network.
  • Purposes of processing: Delivery and storage of inquiry emails, responses, and service security and operation. Diary data is not automatically transmitted from the app.
  • Processing locations: Apple states that it may process and store information on servers in the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, or countries participating in the Global CBPR system. This is Apple’s general service information and does not identify the country where a specific inquiry email is stored. Apple Privacy Policy
  • Retention and deletion: KYU LAB deletes inquiry emails it manages, including sent replies, trash, and downloaded attachments, within 30 days after completing its response. Apple’s own security and operational records may be retained until the processing purposes and legal or business retention needs described by Apple have ended.
  • Choice and refusal: Contacting us by email is optional. If you do not want this email processing, you can choose not to use email inquiries, with no effect on The Day’s recording features. You can request deletion or suspension of processing of an inquiry already sent through the support email above.

10. Effective date and changes

This policy takes effect on September 22, 2026. It was first published on the same day.

If the app’s information handling changes, we will announce the changes and their effective date on this page and make previous policies available. Publishing a policy does not replace obtaining consent for changes that require separate consent.
